Open Race
You do not have to register to run in the open race, so if any parents would like to run the course your sons will be running, feel free to come out and run at 4:15pm. Same goes if any of our athletes have younger siblings who would like to run in one of the pre-High School races! There is an entry fee for all spectators, but no additional fee to run in the open race.
Entries
Ten of our athletes will run in the relay race. There will be two teams, each consisting of five athletes. Each person will run the 2500m loop once. I expect team times to be, approximately, in the 42-48 minute range.
The following athletes will run in the relay (order TBD):
Red Team: Satchel Drabinski, Kendall Giles, Arvin Mirchandani, Lucas Moisiuk, Renaud Williams
Blue Team: Evan Bouchard, Elijah Hawkins, Dominic Hilton, Fareed Rahi, Alexander Soto
Our remaining athletes will be divided among the other five sections of the boys open races. The following athletes have tentatively been entered in the meet, though any who have not completed all roster requirements* by the time entries are due Wednesday night will be removed from this meet:
Zahir Accilien, Oladimeji Alade, Ian Andrews, Michael Bridges, Emilio Chicas, William Dougherty, John Tomas Felicio, Nathaniel Garvin Jr, Kendall Gratton, Miguel Guzman, Ryan Hickey, Dominic Hislop, Blake Inzeo, Dane Kuzner, Stephen Lawrence Jr, Caene Nartey, Nnamdi Onwuka, Chase Osby, Kenneth Osuji Jr, Luke Anthony Quach, Terence Rascher, Julian Righi, Sebastian Righi, Stavros Rodousakis, Logan Von Spiegelfeld
The meet timers will place those athletes into the five open sections based on estimated seed times I have submitted. Once I have that list I will update this page with their placements.

Section 2:
Section 3:
Section 4:
Section 5:
Note: I need to know before practice ends Wednesday if anybody will be unable to attend. If relay runners cannot make it, I will need to make substitutions before the entry deadline and I need to know if athletes entered in the open race will be absent so I do not move them into a relay. I also need to know if any athletes not listed above are planning to run this season and will be available to race on Saturday so I can add them to our MileSplit roster and enter them in the meet.
*Roster requirements include:
Being cleared by the athletic trainers in regards to Magnus and XLNTbrain
Submitting Google Form from mandatory team meeting
Submitting team fee payment via DeMatha website
Awards
An overall team champion for both boys and girls will be awarded based on the combined performance of schools' A and B relay teams. The top five A relays will earn their schools points (1st place = 5 points | 5th place = 1 point) and the same will be done for the top five B relays. The highest possible team score will be 10 points.
Estimated return to DeMatha
11:00pm (give or take depending on traffic)
Please send money with your son for food. If there are concessions, and they make for a reasonable meal, they should get something to eat before we leave the meet. If there aren't concessions or they are limited to snack foods, we will make a brief stop for food on the way back and I will have trash bags so we can eat on the bus and not delay our return any longer than necessary.
Athletes:
Wear your racing uniforms -- we will begin distributing racing shorts and singlets on Tuesday of this week.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPRESSION GEAR WORN UNDER THE UNIFORM: Compression shorts, if worn, MUST be the same BLUE as our school color (ROYAL BLUE) and stop above the knee. Compression shirts may be short or long sleeve but MUST be WHITE (though I recommend no compression shirts unless the weather is exceptionally cold). If a logo is visible on either piece of apparel, it must be Under Armour.
*If you wear visible compressions that do not meet these requirements, you will need to remove them or you will not be permitted to race.
Wear your team gear (if you did not order any, or if yours has not arrived yet, you MUST wear Under Armour clothing to warm up in; do not show up in just your uniform).
Wear your training shoes. No flip-flops or crocs until after you've cooled down.
Pack your racing spikes, if you have them. These should not be your primary shoes for the course walk and warmup/cool down; these are only to be worn during the race. The surface is varied and the meet director recommends flats for this course. It will be good to have your spikes as an option, but you may decide you'd prefer to race in your training shoes.
Everyone must pitch in during set-up and/or take-down in regards to the tent, tarp, etc.
Bring your yoga mat (or towel) for cooldown stretches.
Bring a filled water bottle.
Additional Important Details
For the relay: Ten (10) athletes will be divided into two (2) teams. The five athletes on each relay will each run a 2500m loop while carrying a baton. The open races will be one circuit of the same 2500m loop. Races begin and end on a track but most of the loop is outside the stadium.
Parents/guardians can sign up to bring water, gatorade, and/or snacks for the athletes to have before and after their races by using this Signup Genius link for this week.
Parents and relatives are encouraged to attend. There will be a $10 entry fee for spectators ($5 for students aside from those with the team). Details have not been shared yet but in the past they have used online payments with QR codes at the gate.
Please note that I expect athletes to stay with the team until the conclusion of the meet to support their teammates. In the event that you absolutely must leave the meet early, you must check in with me first because I need to remain aware of each athlete's location until either I dismiss them to leave with their guardian or until we arrive back at DeMatha. Please do not leave the meet location with your son unless I have dismissed him.
IMPORTANT: If you intend to bring your son home from the meet (whether he rode to the meet with you or not), you MUST sign the Return Trip with Parents form and return it to coach before you leave from the meet. I try to have plenty of copies on hand at the meet if you forget to print it.
IMPORTANT: If your son will drive to/from the meet, or if your son will leave the meet with another athlete or parent, you MUST sign the Transportation Verification Carpool form and return it to coach before we depart for the meet.
Anybody taking photos of our athletes during the meet can upload them to our shared album here.
Athletes will be told to call/text their ride when we leave the course. I will also send an alert via Remind with an estimated time of arrival at DeMatha.
Forecast
As of Sunday, August 23, the forecast for August 29 is partly cloudy with a high of 86º F and moderate humidity.
We will be tracking the forecast throughout the week to advise our athletes on proper attire. Hydrate well through the week; afternoon/evening races require different preparation, particularly in regards to fluid intake throughout race day.
If you have any questions, contact Coach Puffett directly.
