Mass
I am waiting for details regarding the Mass they've announced will be celebrated before the race on Sunday. If it is held during the time between our arrival and the beginning of the meet, we will plan to attend that Mass. Otherwise, I encourage you all to make plans to attend a Saturday evening Mass. I imagine it will be difficult to attend Mass Sunday morning and make it to DeMatha by 9am or Georgetown Prep by 10am, though that is also an option available to you.
I will update this with information regarding Mass once I receive it.
11/10 Update: Georgetown Prep will hold a Catholic Mass on campus at 11:15am. With our first race at noon and JV running at 1pm, only our JV athletes would realistically be able to attend without it affecting their warmup and race performance. As such, we will not attend the Mass on Prep's campus Sunday morning. I encourage everyone to make alternate arrangements to attend Mass this weekend, whether it be a Saturday evening Mass, Sunday morning before heading to Prep, or Sunday afternoon/evening.
Registered Athletes
Our entries for the varsity boys race at the MD Private Schools Championship include Graham Fenn, William Jackson, Michael Metz, Ian Parsons, Christopher Toomer, Hayden Walsh, and Roman Zentek.
Our entries for the JV boys race at the MD Private Schools Championship include Brendan Dougherty, Jesse Holland, Cameron Lamb, Maximo Legaspi, Devin Lewis, Yaphet Negussie, and Akintunde Shoetan.
Awards Ceremony
There are not details available regarding awards. However, this is a championship meet so there likely will be some sort of awards ceremony, in which case we will remain through the conclusion of that.
Estimated Return to DeMatha
3:30pm (give or take depending on traffic)
Athletes:
Wear your racing uniforms.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPRESSION GEAR WORN UNDER THE UNIFORM: Compression shorts, if worn, MUST be the same BLUE as our school color (ROYAL BLUE) and stop above the knee. Compression shirts may be short or long sleeve (though I recommend no compression shirts unless the weather is exceptionally cold) but MUST be WHITE . If a logo is visible on either piece of apparel, it must be Under Armour.
Wear your team gear (if you did not order any, you must wear Under Armour clothing to warm up in; do not show up in just your uniform).
It may be cold, so if you need an extra layer of clothes over your racing uniform, make sure you have that. If it's not under armour, just be sure it's under your team gear. I also strongly recommend bringing an extra pair of socks for after your race (maybe even a second pair for your race and a third pair for after).
Wear your training shoes. No flip-flops until after you've cooled down.
Pack your racing spikes. These should not be your primary shoes for the course walk and warmup/cooldown; these are only to be worn during the race.
Everyone must pitch in during set-up and/or take-down in regards to the tent, tarp, etc.
Additional Important Details
The distance for this course is expected to be 5 kilometers.
Parents/guardians can sign up to bring water, gatorade, and/or snacks for the athletes to have before and after their races by using this Signup Genius link for this week.
Parents and relatives are encouraged to attend. However, please note that I expect athletes to stay with the team until the conclusion of the meet to support their teammates. In the event that you absolutely must leave the meet early, you must check in with me first because I need to remain aware of each athlete's location until either I dismiss them to leave with their guardian or until we arrive back at DeMatha. Please do not leave the meet location with your son unless I have dismissed him.
IMPORTANT: If you intend to bring your son home from the meet (whether he rode to the meet with you or not), you MUST sign the Return Trip with Parents form and return it to coach before you leave the meet.
IMPORTANT: If your son will drive to/from the meet, or if your son will leave the meet with another athlete or parent, you MUST sign the Transportation Verification Carpool form and return it to coach before we depart for the meet.
Athletes will be told to call/text their ride when we leave Georgetown Prep. I will also send an alert via Remind with an estimated time of arrival at DeMatha.
As of Thursday, November 10, the forecast for November 13 is partly cloudy with a high of 50, so course conditions should be optimal but it will be quite chilly. Please dress appropriately.
