Open Race
You do not have to register to run in the open race, so if any parents would like to run the course your sons will be running, feel free to come out and run at 4:45pm! Same goes if any of our athletes have younger siblings who would like to run in one of the pre-High School races!
Entries
Ten of our athletes will run in the relay race. There will be two teams, each consisting of five athletes. Each person will run the 2500m loop once (so I expect team times will be, approximately, in the 42-48 minute range).
The following athletes will run in the relay (order TBD):
Red Team - Graham Fenn, Jayden Keels, Sayid Shakur, Christopher Toomer, James Westbrooks
Blue Team - Daden Grogan, Tarik Harris, Michael Metz, Jalen Neptune, Ian Parsons
Our remaining athletes will be divided among the other four sections of the boys extras races as follows:
Section I - Nicholas Berry, Joshua Gresham, William Jackson, Hayden Walsh, Roman Zentek
Section II - William Herman, Maximo Legaspi, Xavier Raymond, Brandon Smoot
Section III - Peter Brown, Jesse Holland, Cameron Lamb, Lazarus McCarthy, Yaphet Negussie, Andrew Righi
Section IV - Anthony Armbrister, Anthony Bardonille, Daman Decker, Brendan Dougherty, Carter Leecost, Joseph LeGloahec, Devin Lewis, Akintunde Shoetan, Daniel Traves, Amari Wright
Note: I need to know before practice ends Wednesday if relay runners cannot attend. Entries will be finalized that evening.
Awards Ceremony
Team trophies and individual medals will be given to the top boys and girls 'A' relay teams
The top 10 boys and girls in each extras race will receive medals
Estimated return to DeMatha
11:00pm (give or take depending on traffic)
Please send a bit of money with your son for food. If there are concessions, they should get something to eat before we leave the meet. If there are not concessions, we will make a brief stop for food on the way back and I'll have trash bags so we can eat on the bus and not delay our return any more than necessary.
Athletes:
Wear your racing uniforms.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPRESSION GEAR WORN UNDER THE UNIFORM: Compression shorts, if worn, MUST be the same BLUE as our school color (ROYAL BLUE) and stop above the knee. Compression shirts may be short or long sleeve (though I recommend no compression shirts unless the weather is exceptionally cold) but MUST be WHITE . If a logo is visible on either piece of apparel, it must be Under Armour.
Wear your team gear (if you did not order any or if yours has not arrived yet, you must wear Under Armour clothing to warm up in; do not show up in just your uniform).
Wear your training shoes. We've already had some athletes forget their training shoes for meets this season, so please no flip-flops or crocs until after you've raced and cooled down.
Pack your racing spikes. These should not be your primary shoes for the course walk and warmup/cooldown; these are only to be worn during the race.
Additional Note: The meet director recommends flats for this course, so it is possible that, after the course walk, we will determine that your training shoes will be better for this race than your spikes. You should still pack them just in case, but be prepared to race in your training shoes. We will do our best to accommodate anybody who needs blanks so they can still race in their racing shoes.
Everyone must pitch in during set-up and/or take-down in regards to the tent, tarp, etc.
Additional Important Details:
For the relay: Ten (10) athletes will be divided into two (2) teams. The five athletes on each relay will each run a 2500m loop while carrying a baton. The Extras races will be one circuit of the same 2500m loop.
Parents/guardians can sign up to bring water, gatorade, and/or snacks for the athletes to have before and after their races by using this Signup Genius link for this week.
There will be a $5 entry fee for spectators and anybody who wishes to run in the open and pre-high school races. They use the etix app and will have QR codes at the gate.
Parents and relatives are encouraged to attend. However, please note that I expect athletes to stay with the team until the conclusion of the meet to support their teammates. This is non-negotiable. In the event that you absolutely must leave the meet early, you must check in with me first because I need to remain aware of each athlete's location until either I dismiss them to leave with their guardian or until we arrive back at DeMatha. Please do not leave the meet location with your son unless I have dismissed him.
IMPORTANT: If you intend to bring your son home from the meet (whether he rode to the meet with you or not), you MUST sign the Return Trip with Parents form and return it to coach before you leave the meet.
IMPORTANT: If your son will drive himself to/from the meet, or if your son will leave the meet with another athlete or parent, you MUST sign the Transportation Verification Carpool form and return it to coach before we depart for the meet.
Athletes will be told to call/text their ride when we leave Lake Braddock Secondary School. I will also send an alert via Remind with an estimated time of arrival at DeMatha.
As of Wednesday, September 14, the forecast for September 17 is clear skies with a high around 84. Keep in mind that the meet will end after dark so you might consider bringing long sleeve t-shirts and/or jackets for the later part of the meet and for the bus ride home.
If you have any questions, contact Coach Puffett directly.
