There will be no transportation provided by DeMatha for this meet.
Note the following meet details:
Location
Academy of the Holy Cross
4920 Strathmore Ave.
Kensington, MD 20895
Arrival Instructions
Pre-Arrival
All athletes must complete the COVID-19 pre-screening on Saturday morning and no later than 8:15am. Responses before Saturday are not valid for meet clearance and I will need enough time to compile responses into a spreadsheet, send that spreadsheet to our athletic director, and have him send it along to the AHC athletic director, who is only accepting clearance verification from schools' athletic directors or certified trainers, not coaches. If you do not complete the pre-screening by this time, I will not be able to include you in the spreadsheet and you will not be on their AD's list of cleared athletes when you arrive on campus. There will be no exceptions and I will not send late responses and ask that Coach King send them one by one to their athletic director. We will all be too busy on Saturday to do this.
Drop Off
When arriving at the school, their AD will be at the front entrance for traffic control/COVID check-in. Once cleared, you may proceed to the drop off point at the roundabout where the statue of the Blessed Mother is. When you've dropped your athlete off, proceed to the Convent, which was the building to your left as you entered Holy Cross.
If you are staying for the race, park your vehicles on Still Water Ave. and Strathmore Ave. You can then walk across the street to the convent to watch the race or watch from outside Holy Cross's entrance gate. Spectators will not be allowed on Holy Cross property.
Athletes who drive
Please park in the Holy Cross elementary parking lot
Arrival
Arrival is no earlier than 45 minutes prior to your race. Athletes should arrive as close to 9:15am as possible. Athletes will stage in the staff parking lot prior to their race. Please be aware that bathrooms are not available and there will be no team tents. The goal is to arrive, warm up, run, then leave, as this is what Montgomery County is allowing. There will be a trainer on site, and Holy Cross's AD is also a certified trainer.
Meet Schedule
8:15a - Girls may begin arriving
9:00a - Varsity/JV Girls
9:15a - Boys should begin arriving*
11:00a - Varsity/JV Boys
*This is a change from the previous notification that we could begin arriving at 10am.
Registered Athletes**
Our varsity team* will consist of Gavin Foran, Dawson Grogan, James Hudson, Jayden Keels, Jaiden Mosley, Ian Parsons, and Nick Sims
Our junior varsity team* will consist of Ian Brown, Peter Brown, Maximo Legaspi, Jonah Lyke, Michael Metz, Jacob Robertson, Georges Tadonki, and Christopher Toomer
*Keep in mind, the varsity and JV athletes are scheduled to run at the same time. Results will then be broken down into Varsity and Junior Varsity by the timing company so we will receive two separate race results.
**If anybody expected to see their name on this list and did not, it is because you never filled out the athlete Google Form to indicate your availability. Any athlete who would like to run at this or any other meet this season MUST indicate his availability using that form. The deadline for entries to this meet is Thursday 11/29 at 7pm, so please submit the form no later than noon on Thursday to give me a chance to update our entries. The entry deadline is now passed; these will be our entries for Saturday. You may still complete/re-complete the Google Form to indicate availability for November 7 at Holy Cross and November 14 (possible MD State Private School Championship).
Athletes:
If you still have your cross country racing uniform from last track season, wear it. I will have uniforms with me for everybody else who hasn't received one (I plan to give uniforms to athletes at practice on Thursday, but the forecast has put Thursday's team practice into doubt).
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPRESSION GEAR WORN UNDER THE UNIFORM: Compression shorts, if worn, MUST be the same BLUE as our school color (ROYAL BLUE) and stop above the knee. Compression shirts may be short or long sleeve (though I recommend no compression shirts unless the weather is exceptionally cold) but MUST be WHITE . If a logo is visible on either piece of apparel, it must be Under Armour.
Wear your team gear (if you did not order any or if yours has not arrived yet, please wear Under Armour clothing to warm up in - we are out of season so I think there could be some leniency, but I wouldn't count on it and so we'd likely have to censor any photos taken where competitors' logos are visible; do not show up in just your uniform).
Wear your training shoes. No flip-flops until after you've cooled down.
Pack your racing spikes. These should not be your primary shoes for the course walk and warmup/cooldown; these are only to be worn during the race.
Have a mask! You will need to wear a mask before/after warmup up, to the starting line, and when you finish your race.
Additional Important Details
The distance for this course is 3 miles (a 5k is 3.1 miles, so it's just short of a 5k).
Parents and relatives may attend and watch the race, but pay careful attention to the drop off instructions above. You will not be allowed on the course or on Holy Cross property.
If you are dropping your son off and not staying to watch the race, please return no later than 11:45am. We will have finished our race and, if not done with our cool down, will be very nearly done.
The invitational's meet page on Milesplit contains some pictures to help you direct yourselves as you enter campus.
The forecast calls for some sun and a high of around 52 on Saturday 10/31! Keep an eye on the forecast as we draw nearer to the meet so you can be prepared if any change is expected.
If you have any questions, please ask coach directly.
