2020 DeMatha XC Time Trial #1: Info
Saturday, September 19, 2020
Please have your sons at the Paint Branch Trail parking lot no later than 9:30am so that we can go through our warmup drills before beginning our time trials at 10am.
Note the following details:
Location
Paint Branch Trail
4289 Metzerott Road
College Park, MD 20740
Schedule
9:30a - Warm up
10:00a - Time Trial (Groups of up to 9, staggered start w/ 2 minutes between groups)
Estimated Departure
11:00am
Athletes:
Wear long pants and long sleeves for the warmup (if you have team gear, feel free to wear that) and make sure you have a bag to put them in before your run so that your stuff isn't just laying around.
Wear a mask. You will be permitted to run the time trial without a mask, but you must have a mask on during warmup drills and immediately after returning from the course.
Wear your training shoes. No spikes for this run as much of it is on asphalt.
Social Distance. As difficult a habit as it is to break, we cannot high five or perform other rituals. Running is considered a safe activity in that there is a negligible risk of spreading a virus while running, but once we are back from the run we must adhere to health and safety guidelines.
Parents:
If any parents are willing and able to volunteer to assist with running this time trial, it would be a huge help. Depending on how much help I have, I may be able to work out a way to get 1-mile and 2-mile splits for the athletes like I traditionally do for our meets. But with a staggered start, even with my bike I wouldn't be able to get those and finish times, so I will need some help on the start/finish end if I'm to do that.
Registration
There is no formal registration for the time trial, but I do need to know who plans to be there so that I can plan for who will be in each starting group. Coach King has verified regulations and approved having more than nine athletes on the course at a time, but we may only have nine on the starting line at a time, so we will operate with a two-minute staggered start. Please email me by 6:00pm Friday, September 18, to let me know if you/your son plans to participate. Remember that you must already be cleared by our training staff by that time, so get your paperwork in!
Additional Important Details
The distance for this course is 5 kilometers.
Parents: if you drop your son off and leave, please be sure to return by 11am to pick your son up. This will be a very short day for us and I'd like to keep it that way.
Parents/siblings are also welcome to register and run/walk the course themselves if they'd like!
As of Tuesday, September 15, the forecast for Sept. 19 is partly cloudy with a high of 64, so expect it to be chilly during the warmup routine.
If you have any questions, contact coach directly.
