Registered Athletes
As of Saturday, October 19, six spots are locked up for the Varsity A team. Those belong to Dawson Grogan, James Hudson, Jayden Keels, Thomas Parsons, Hayward Smith-Cassidy, and Langston Stovall. The seventh spot is between Julius Gamble and Jaiden Mosley. I spoke to both of them Friday and we came to an agreement that I will make my best judgement based on Wednesday's interval workout.
Christopher Toomer earned the seventh spot but after talking to him about his options and giving him the choice earlier in the week, he decided he will run in the freshman race. Christopher will earn his varsity letter for qualifying for the varsity team at championships.
All freshmen except Jayden Keels, since he is entered in Varsity A, will run in the freshman race. Everyone else will run on Varsity B.
Award Ceremony
This is a championship meet. Regardless of how we perform on Saturday we will remain, as a team, to the conclusion of the awards ceremony in the interest of good sportsmanship. As it is a fairly small meet, only eleven boys teams and ten girls teams, this will not be a significant time commitment.
Estimated Return to DeMatha
2:15pm (give or take depending on traffic)
We WILL NOT stop for food on our return trip
Athletes:
Wear your racing uniforms.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPRESSION GEAR WORN UNDER THE UNIFORM: Compression shorts, if worn, MUST be the same BLUE as our school color (ROYAL BLUE) and stop above the knee. Compression shirts may be short or long sleeve (though I recommend no compression shirts unless the weather is exceptionally cold) but MUST be WHITE . If a logo is visible on either piece of apparel, it must be Under Armour.
Wear your team gear (if you did not order any or if yours has not arrived yet, you must wear Under Armour clothing to warm up in; do not show up in just your uniform).
It may be cold and there is a chance of rain, so if you need an extra layer of clothes over your racing uniform, make sure you have that. If it's not under armour, just be sure it's under your team gear. I also strongly recommend bringing an extra pair of socks for after your race (maybe even a second pair for your race and a third pair for after).
Wear your training shoes. No flip-flops until after you've cooled down.
Pack your racing spikes. These should not be your primary shoes for the course walk and warmup/cooldown; these are only to be worn during the race.
Everyone must pitch in during set-up and/or take-down in regards to the tent, tarp, etc.
Additional Important Details
The distance for this course is 5 kilometers.
Parents and relatives are encouraged to attend. However, please note that I expect athletes to stay with the team until the conclusion of the meet to support their teammates. This is non-negotiable. In the event that you absolutely must leave the meet early, you must check in with me first because I need to remain aware of each athlete's location until either I dismisses them to leave with their guardian or until we arrive back at DeMatha. Please do not leave the meet location with your son unless I have dismissed him.
IMPORTANT: If you intend to bring your son home from the meet (whether he rode to the meet with you or not), you MUST sign the Return Trip with Parents form and return it to coach before you leave the meet.
IMPORTANT: If your son will drive himself to/from the meet, or if your son will leave the meet with another athlete or parent, you MUST sign the Transportation Verification Carpool form and return it to coach before we depart for the meet.
Athletes will be told to call/text their ride when we leave the school. I will also send an alert via Remind with an estimated time of arrival at DeMatha.
As of Friday morning, 10/25, the forecast for championships is 67 and cloudy. Looks as though the rain is expected to hold off until Saturday afternoon/evening.
If you have any questions, please ask coach directly.
