Our Varsity A team at Landon will consist of Dawson Grogan, James Hudson, Jayden Keels, Tariq Lewis, Michael Metz, Jaiden Mosley, Thomas Parsons, Ronald Rucker, and Hayward Smith-Cassidy.
Our Varsity B team will consist of Samuel Cockrell^, Jaden Davis, Gavin Foran, Julius Gamble, Desmond Holt, Ian Parsons, Anthony Perry, Langston Stovall†, and Christopher Toomer*.
Our Varsity C team will consist of Lucas Arzayus, Ian Brown, Steven Camarano*, James Carroll, Michael Duarte, Bodior Elliott, Andrew Foreman, Caleb Ghatt^, Jon Kasner, Maximo Legaspi, Jonah Lyke†, Jackson McCormick, Jaquada Moses, Yaphet Negussie, Cameron Polk, Jacob Robertson, Mathias Roy, Georges Tadonki, and Dominic Williams-Dzirasa.
In particular, if your name is on the Varsity A or Varsity B lists, I need to know by the end of practice Wednesday if you will not be able to make it to the meet. After 7:59pm on Wednesday, I will not be able to bump someone from the B race up to A or from the C race up to B. I'll also assess any nagging injuries early in the week and if anything concerns me where I may have to make a late-week or race-time decision on someone's status, I may make an adjustment to the lineups.
Athletes who have not hit their qualifying times have been entered in the C race since it is the last race of the day and slower times will not affect my ability prepare athletes in other races for their competition. They are still expected to hit their qualifying times, however, before I will enter them in meets where their race would not be the last event [e.g., the WCAC Championship runs the varsity race last].
*First alternate to move up to higher race
^Second alternate to move up to higher race
†Third alternate to move up to higher race
Estimated Return to DeMatha
2:15pm (give or take depending on traffic)
We WILL NOT stop for food on our return trip this week
Athletes:
Wear your racing uniforms. Those who have not received one yet will get one on Tuesday of this week.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPRESSION GEAR WORN UNDER THE UNIFORM: Compression shorts, if worn, MUST be the same BLUE as our school color (ROYAL BLUE) and stop above the knee. Compression shirts may be short or long sleeve (though I recommend no compression shirts unless the weather is exceptionally cold) but MUST be WHITE . If a logo is visible on either piece of apparel, it must be Under Armour.
Wear your team gear (if you did not order any or if yours has not arrived yet, you must wear Under Armour clothing to warm up in; do not show up in just your uniform).
Wear your training shoes. No flip-flops until after you've cooled down.
Pack your racing spikes. These should not be your primary shoes for the course walk and warmup/cooldown; these are only to be worn during the race.
Everyone must pitch in during set-up and/or take-down in regards to the tent, tarp, etc.
Additional Important Details
The distance for this course is 5 kilometers.
Parents and relatives are encouraged to attend. However, please note that I expect athletes to stay with the team until the conclusion of the meet to support their teammates. This is non-negotiable. In the event that you absolutely must leave the meet early, you must check in with me first because I need to remain aware of each athlete's location until either I dismisses them to leave with their guardian or until we arrive back at DeMatha. Please do not leave the meet location with your son unless I have dismissed him.
IMPORTANT: If you intend to bring your son home from the meet (whether he rode to the meet with you or not), you MUST sign the Return Trip with Parents form and return it to coach before you leave the meet.
IMPORTANT: If your son will drive himself to/from the meet, or if your son will leave the meet with another athlete or parent, you MUST sign the Transportation Verification Carpool form and return it to coach before we depart for the meet.
Athletes will be told to call/text their ride when we leave the school. I will also send an alert via Remind with an estimated time of arrival at DeMatha.
The forecast calls for sun and a high in the upper 80s next Saturday! Keep an eye on the forecast as we draw nearer to the meet so you can be prepared if any change is expected.
If you have any questions, please ask coach directly.
