Note the following meet details:
Location
Bull Run Regional Park Special Events Center
7700 Bull Run Dr.*
Centreville, VA 20121
*Important Note: There is not an exact address given. To get to the Special Events Center, use this address to start. When you are on Bull Run Dr., as soon as you cross over I-66, make a left and follow this road straight all the way back until you see the parking area in the middle of the course.
Meet Schedule
8:30a - Open Race (if any parents/siblings/friends wish to enter, you can do so at http://www.prraces.com - I'm sorry to say that I will not be racing this year)
9:00a - Course Walk
9:30a - Coaches meeting
10:30a - Freshman Boys Race (Unlimited [freshman] entries) [Box 6]
11:10a - Freshman Girls Race
11:50a - JV Boys Race 1* (Unlimited entries) [Box 6]
12:30p - JV Boys Race 2
1:10p - JV Girls
2:00p - Varsity B Boys
2:30p - Varsity B Girls
3:00p - Seeded Varsity Boys (Allowed 7 entries) [Box 6]
3:30p - Seeded Varsity Girls
4:15p - Awards Ceremony for all races on stage
*Because this is such a large invitational, there are too many entries to put every registered male JV athlete on the course at the same time, so the meet director randomly splits the teams into two sections. We will know later in the week of the race which section we fall in. (10/8 Edit: We have been randomly assigned to the first race of the JV split. Box numbers have also been assigned.)
Registered Athletes
Our varsity team* at Glory Days will consist of Julius Gamble, Dawson Grogan, James Hudson, Jaiden Mosley, Thomas Parsons, Hayward Smith-Cassidy, and Langston Stovall.
Our junior varsity team at Glory Days will consist of all of our other non-freshman athletes while our freshman team will consist of all the freshmen on our roster.
*Jayden Keels, Ian Parsons, and Chris Toomer each earn a mark toward a varsity letter because they would have been on varsity if not for the freshman race.
Estimated Return to DeMatha
6:00pm (give or take depending on traffic - could be earlier if we do not stay for the awards ceremony)
We WILL NOT stop for food on our return trip this week. HOWEVER, please note that Glory Days Grill will be one of the vendors at the meet and there will be food available for purchase at the meet. We will, as usual, have food items such as bananas, bagels, and granola bars available for the athletes, but if you will need something more substantial, please be sure to bring money for the vendors. Our varsity athletes need to stay fueled while they wait for their race and our JV athletes who are staying through the meet will need something to refuel their bodies after their races.
Athletes:
Wear your racing uniforms. Everyone should have received one at this point except for James Carroll, who has been out working on his Eagle scout project. If he expects to be able to race at Glory Days, I will issue him a uniform.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPRESSION GEAR WORN UNDER THE UNIFORM: Compression shorts, if worn, MUST be the same BLUE as our school color (ROYAL BLUE) and stop above the knee. Compression shirts may be short or long sleeve (though I recommend no compression shirts unless the weather is exceptionally cold) but MUST be WHITE . If a logo is visible on either piece of apparel, it must be Under Armour.
Wear your team gear (if you did not order any or if yours has not arrived yet, you must wear Under Armour clothing to warm up in; do not show up in just your uniform).
Wear your training shoes. No flip-flops until after you've cooled down.
Pack your racing spikes. These should not be your primary shoes for the course walk and warmup/cooldown; these are only to be worn during the race.
Everyone must pitch in during set-up and/or take-down in regards to the tent, tarp, etc.
Additional Important Details
The distance for this course is 5 kilometers.
Parents and relatives are encouraged to attend. However, please note that I expect athletes to stay with the team until the conclusion of the meet to support their teammates. This is non-negotiable. In the event that you absolutely must leave the meet early, you must check in with me first because I need to remain aware of each athlete's location until either I dismisses them to leave with their guardian or until we arrive back at DeMatha. Please do not leave the meet location with your son unless I have dismissed him.
IMPORTANT: If you intend to bring your son home from the meet (whether he rode to the meet with you or not), you MUST sign the Return Trip with Parents form and return it to coach before you leave the meet.
IMPORTANT: If your son will drive himself to/from the meet, or if your son will leave the meet with another athlete or parent, you MUST sign the Transportation Verification Carpool form and return it to coach before we depart for the meet.
Athletes will be told to call/text their ride when we leave the school. I will also send an alert via Remind with an estimated time of arrival at DeMatha.
The forecast calls for some sun and a high in the mid to lower 70s Saturday 10/12! Keep an eye on the forecast as we draw nearer to the meet, and I will try to remember to update this page early next week, so you can be prepared if any change is expected.
If you have any questions, please ask coach directly.
