2019 College Park parkrun #1: Info
Saturday, August 31, 2019
There will not be transportation from DeMatha for this meet. Please have your son's at the parkrun by 8:30am so that we can go through our warmup drills before the race begins at 9am.
Note the following meet details (this is not a real meet, but this will give you an idea of what my meet information posts will look like through the season):
Location
Paint Branch Trail
4289 Metzerott Road
College Park, MD 20740
Meet Schedule
8:30a - Warm up
9:00a - Open Race (all athletes)
Estimated Departure
Between 9:45 and 10:00am
We are a team, so we will wait for everybody to complete the run and then we will go through our cool down stretching routine as a team before we depart for the day.
Athletes:
I encourage you to wear a DeMatha cross country t-shirt for the run itself if you have one; if you don't, it's preferable that you still wear something with DeMatha on it. We will be able to show that we are a team and you never know if there may be young runners there who could be interested in attending DeMatha in the future.
If you already have warmups, I encourage you to wear those and make sure you have a bag to put them in before your run so that your stuff isn't just laying around.
Wear your training shoes. No spikes for this run
Registration
The parkrun is not a DeMatha sanctioned meet, so this is not a race I can register you/your son for. To register, go to this link.
If you have previous run at a parkrun event, at College Park or anywhere else, click the link that says "click here to find out how to access your profile." If you have never registered for a parkrun before, go to the very bottom and click on "Take me to the USA registration form."
Once there, under "Home Run," it doesn't really matter which you select, but the College Park option makes the most sense since you will likely run that one more often than you will any other parkrun.
You can leave the Running Club as "unattached," which is the default.
Once you finish filling everything out, click "Check Form." It may take a moment, but it will take you to a page that asks for you to check everything and verify that it is correct. Once you have done so, click "Register Me."
Within 20 minutes (it was about 30 seconds for me), you will receive an email confirmation. In the email will be a link where you can get your barcode. You will use the same barcode every time you run and you MUST HAVE YOUR BARCODE with you at the parkrun in order to receive a result. If you don't have a barcode, they will not record your time and I will not be able to confirm your time.
Please make sure you save the confirmation email somewhere on your email server so that you can retrieve your barcode easily for future parkruns.
Additional Important Details
The distance for this course is 5 kilometers.
Parents: if you drop your son off and leave, please be sure to return by 10am to pick your son up. This will be a very short day for us and I'd like to keep it that way.
As of Tuesday, August 27, the forecast for Aug. 31 is sunny with a high of 85, but it should very nice during the morning hours.
If you have any questions, contact coach directly.
