2018 Glory Days Grill Invitational: Info
Saturday, October 6, 2018
The bus will depart from DeMatha promptly at 6:30am. I want to be very clear that for this meet we ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY CANNOT wait for any athlete arriving at the school after this time. It is, approximately, a 60-minute drive to Bull Run Regional Park in Centreville, Va.
Note the following meet details:
Location
Bull Run Regional Park Special Events Center
7700 Bull Run Dr.*
Centreville, VA 20121
*Important Note: There is not an exact address given. To get to the Special Events Center, use this address to start. When you are on Bull Run Dr., as soon as you cross over I-66, make a left and follow this road straight all the way back until you see the parking area in the middle of the course.
Meet Schedule
8:30a - Open Race (Coach Cory will be running along with one or two alums)
9:00a - Course Walk
9:30a - Coaches meeting
10:30a - Freshman Boys Race (Unlimited [freshman] entries)

11:50a - JV Boys Race 1^ (Unlimited entries)
12:30p - JV Boys Race 2

2:30p - Varsity B Girls
3:00p - Seeded Varsity Boys (Allowed 7 entries)
3:30p - Seeded Varsity Girls
4:15p - Awards Ceremony for all races on stage
^ Because this is such a large invitational, there are too many entries to put every registered male JV athlete on the course at the same time, so the meet director randomly splits the teams into two sections. We will know later in the week which section we fall in. (10/3 Edit: We have been randomly assigned to the first race of the JV split.)
Registered Athletes
Our varsity team at Glory Days will consist of Thomas, Hayward, James, Jaiden, Manuel, Gavin, and Steven.
Our junior varsity team at Glory Days will consist of all 18 of our other non-freshman athletes while our freshman team will consist of all eight freshmen on our roster.
Estimated Return to DeMatha
6:00pm (give or take depending on traffic)
We WILL NOT stop for food on our return trip this week. HOWEVER, please note that Glory Days Grill will be one of the vendors at the meet and there will be food available for purchase at the meet. We will, as usually, have food items such as bananas, bagels, and granola bars available for the athletes, but if you will need something more substantial, please be sure to bring money for the vendors. Our varsity athletes need to stay fueled while they wait for their race and our JV athletes who are staying through the meet will need something to refuel their bodies after their races.
Athletes:
Wear your racing uniforms
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPRESSION GEAR WORN UNDER THE UNIFORM: Compression shorts, if worn, MUST be the same BLUE as our school color (ROYAL BLUE) and stop above the knee. Compression shirts may be short or long sleeve (though I recommend no compression shirts unless the weather is exceptionally cold) but MUST be WHITE . If a logo is visible on either piece of apparel, it must be Under Armour.
Wear your team gear (if you did not order any or if yours has not arrived yet, you must wear Under Armour clothing to warm up in; do not show up in just your uniform). I am hopeful that the gear from our second order will arrive this week.
Wear your training shoes. No flip-flops until after you've cooled down.
Pack your racing spikes. These should not be your primary shoes for the course walk and warmup/cooldown; these are only to be worn during the race.
Everyone must pitch in during set-up and/or take-down in regards to the tent, tarp, etc.
Additional Important Details
The distance for this course is 5 kilometers, the same distance as the last two courses we have competed on. This is the fastest course we will run on this year, though last year our athletes ran much faster times at WCACs (held on the same course) than at this meet.
Parents and relatives are encouraged to attend. However, please plan for your son to remain with the team until we leave at approximately 2:45pm. We are a team and unless there are extenuating circumstances requiring you leave early, our varsity athletes should be supporting the JV athletes who run after them, just as the JV athletes support our varsity athletes who run first.
Parents will receive an email from SignupGenius to volunteer to bring food and drinks for the boys. These items should be dropped off at the school with your son on Saturday morning.
Athletes will be told to call/text their ride when we leave Williamsport and when we leave the restaurant.
I will also send an alert via Remind when we leave.
The forecast calls for dry conditions all week and a high of 77 on Saturday! It should make for great conditions for our athletes.
