2020 Time Trial #2

After running that over-distance course two weeks ago, it was nice to run an actual 5k today. I not only ran a faster time overall, but I also beat my Projected 5k time from two weeks ago by a few seconds. In fact, most of our athletes ran faster than their P5s from our first time trial!

The weather was fantastic today. It was very chilly when I first got out there to put the markers down, but by the time I was ready to run my individual time trial, it was just warm enough that I was willing to take my sweats off, something I didn't do two weeks ago. Carrying less weight likely accounts for my time difference. All of our athletes who ran better than they did two weeks ago have really earned their improvements with all of their hard work. Our training plan has been unforgiving and most of our group workouts are absolutely grueling.

Thank you again to everyone who helped today, from getting your sons there on time, to picking them up, to Ms. Petros and Mr. Parsons for getting times at the finish line, and to junior Langston Stovall for coming out to support the team and keep track of their finishing order for me even though he was unable to participate in today's time trial. Your support and the boys' enthusiastic participation has helped to keep a smile on my face throughout this fall.

Before we get into the results, here's the legend for them. Athletes who ran in either of last year's parkruns may have set new PCBs (personal course bests). Those who ran in our time trial two weeks may have set Virtual PCBs, but since that was also their first race of the season it will instead be designated by Virtual SB (season best). It's virtual because I'm basing it off their projected 5k times from two weeks ago. We also could have PRs or Virtual PRs (personal records) depending on if their previous PR was a 5k or based on a projected 5k time, such as what we had two weeks ago.

Final Thoughts

Congrats to all of our athletes who bested their projected 5k times from two weeks ago. Those who didn't quite get there, we will have more opportunities, whether through additional time trials or, hopefully, at meets. There are still some logistical obstacles our meet directors are working through right now, but as soon as I hear something concrete I will pass it along to you. I certainly hope to get at least a couple of official races in this season.

I'd like to point out that Gavin was just 15 seconds off his PR of 18:46 that he set back at the 2017 WCAC Championship! It's been quite a road to get back within striking distance and now he's set up well to beat that time by a sizable margin before we close shop for the year. Ian Parsons was only two seconds off his course best time of 19:50 that he set at our final parkrun last season.
